I know many people think they do, or at least pretend they do, but I have a feeling unless you're incredibly lucky or very old, I doubt very much you have your shit together! Yet with everyone else faking that they've got their life on track to everyone around them, we all probably feel at the same point, somewhere between "Oh shit!" and "For fucks sake" about this thing we call life!
But what does having your shit together really look like, and is it worth it?
In this modern world we all have things imposed upon us, stresses and strains that take up the hours in our day, from work obligations, to family problems, maintaining a social life and maybe some sort of love life, plus a million other things all bearing down upon us. But what does having your shit together really look like, and is it worth it?
So does having your shit together mean you have to have everything all in balance or does it mean that whenever a trying moment comes flying your way you cope perfectly with it and any other obstacles that are trying to knock you down! To me it just sounds like another way of keeping us in line and stopping us from being too emotional!
Because let's face it if everyone acted out the emotions they felt about every given situation then there would be people freaking out all over the place, and maybe it's a good thing that we don't do that, but we've all repressed it down to almost nothing or one major blowout instead, which always makes you look nuts!
So let's say for example you lose your job, the person who gets straight on with the job search, calls potential employers and keeps themselves busy, it looks like they have - "their shit together"! Where as the person who goes out that weekend after being booted and gets drunk, and though does send out a few c.v.'s mainly chills out in their new found free time, looks like their life is crumbling. But will one more likely get a job quicker over the other, not necessarily, and does either one have a better approach to unemployment, that's really down to the individual.
The same goes for the super "busy" people too, just because they look as if they are running around from errand to errand, and have a full diary, are they really getting more things done than a person who plans their time far better, and does less running around? Just because a person's days are full does it mean their shits together - doubtful!
But all of this said, do we really want our so called shit together anyway? A little disarray never hurt anyone, and everyone has their own way of doing things, so why must we all do some elaborate roll-play, just to look as if our lives are up to scratch for the expectations of everyone else. That's not going to make us happy.
I say maybe it's time to stop trying to get our shit together, and just get on with our lives, less over thinking, less acting and more living!
